To Love-Ru is one of the most well-known romance anime series – but when it comes to watching it in the correct order, many people get confused. And no wonder, because the different seasons have different titles and were sometimes released separately. Here you’ll find out how to watch To Love-Ru so that the story makes sense.
The series is originally based on a manga called Love Trouble and was adapted into an anime starting in 2008. Since then, four seasons have been released – but not all under the same title. Especially in German-speaking regions, this makes things a bit unclear, since the seasons often appear like standalone series. But don’t worry: we’ll clear things up!
How to Watch To Love-Ru in the Correct Order
The first broadcast of To Love-Ru took place in April 2008 in Japan. In total, there are four seasons, which are best watched in the following order:
- To Love-Ru Trouble (Episodes 1–26)
- Motto To Love-Ru (Episodes 27–38)
- To Love-Ru Darkness (Episodes 39–50)
- To Love-Ru Darkness 2nd (Episodes 51–64)
This order ensures that the storyline stays consistent and logical – even though the seasons have different titles. All seasons are also (partly) available on Amazon.

What’s To Love-Ru About, Anyway?
At the center of the story is 15-year-old student Rito Yuki, who’s secretly in love with his classmate Haruna. Unfortunately, he never manages to confess his feelings – something always gets in the way.
One day, Rito is sitting in the bathtub thinking about Haruna, when suddenly a naked girl literally falls into the tub with him. This girl is Lala – not only an alien, but also the princess of the planet Deviluke. On the run from her father, who wants to force her into marriage, she ends up with Rito by pure chance – and quickly decides she wants to marry him.
Of course, things don’t stay quiet for long. Soon, Lala’s bodyguard appears on Earth to bring her back. But after a little fight, he realizes that Rito might not be such a bad husband after all. So he reports back to the Emperor of Deviluke that Rito could be a suitable match.
The Emperor is thrilled – and decides that Rito shall marry his daughter. With one small threat included: if the wedding falls through, he’ll destroy Earth…
