In nine seasons, the sheer madness of office life was documented in The Office. The cult series is now also available on Netflix. But will there be a season 10?
The Office is among the most beloved sitcoms of all time. The show provides insight into the daily office routine of the mid-sized paper wholesale company Dunder Mifflin and is structured in the style of a mockumentary, creating the impression that a camera crew is accompanying the series characters. At the center is the incorrigible department head Michael Scott, portrayed by Steve Carell.
In 2018, The Office was the most-streamed show on the U.S. streaming platform Netflix. But even before that, the series enjoyed great popularity and gave rise to numerous memes. It’s no wonder that many fans are hoping for a continuation. But what are the chances for Season 10?
The Office: No Season 10, but a reboot is in the works
In 2013, the last episode of The Office aired on U.S. television. Indeed, the series officially concluded with the ninth season. This likely means there won’t be a 10th season. However, “The Office” might return in a different way.
Allegedly, creator Greg Daniels is working on a remake of the U.S. version. This information comes from an internal memo of the Writers Guild of America (the union of writers in the film and television industry in the United States) and was made public in September 2023. It specifically states:
“We will soon experience a flood of announcements of projects and castings that have been held back out of fear of bad publicity… Greg Daniels, for example, will do a reboot of ‘The Office.'”
This announcement is not yet an official confirmation. It’s also unclear whether any of the original stars will return or if entirely new characters will take center stage. Either way, we can be curious about what the future holds. That there is a sign of life from the cult series after over ten years is probably something few expected.
