Future of The Midnight Gospel: Season 2 Unlikely
The series, originally titled The Midnight Gospel, premiered on Netflix in 2020. Each of the eight episodes introduces a new guest and often ends with a chaotic event that Clancy narrowly escapes.
Despite the first season being well-received by both critics and viewers, the series has not been renewed for a second season. According to showrunner Duncan Trussell, Netflix put the project on hold after the first season. In an interview with Inverse, he explained:
“Netflix operates a bit like a fisherman: they cast many lines and hope to catch a big hit like Stranger Things. While The Midnight Gospel has a loyal fan base, it’s not as massive as Stranger Things. It was probably a business decision not to continue the series because animation is expensive. But I have no hard feelings, as Netflix gave us the chance to make the show in the first place. The people at Netflix were the best I’ve ever worked with—very cooperative.”
