There has been silence in space for some time now. Will the Netflix series Space Force return with a third season?
Space Force was planned as a major success, evident from its impressive star cast. However, it seems that Netflix did not fully achieve this goal. As a result, it took a while for the second season to be ordered, and fans received only seven new episodes instead of ten.
The second season premiered on Netflix in February 2022. Since then, fans have been eagerly waiting for new content. But will there even be a third season of Space Force? To put it simply: don’t hold out too much hope.
Current Status of Space Force Season 3
The decision to produce new episodes of Space Force has always been in Netflix’s hands. The streaming service financed the project with a substantial budget. However, it seems that the viewership numbers were not high enough to justify the costs. In March 2022, Netflix officially announced the cancellation.
According to reports, the second season required only a month of shooting and was produced in Vancouver, Canada, at a lower cost. Nevertheless, the series proved to be too expensive for the provider, mainly due to high salaries for stars like Steve Carell. Unless another streaming service picks it up, Season 3 will likely remain an unfulfilled wish for fans.
At least the series concluded on a somewhat satisfying note with the last episode of Season 2. General Naird addresses his team about a new mission and states, “We are now officially part of the threat mitigation plan.” Thus, the Space Force ultimately achieved its goal.
Plot of the Netflix Series
General Naird, played by Steve Carell, is promoted and finally receives the long-awaited fourth star on his uniform. However, instead of becoming the general of the esteemed Air Force, he is tasked with building the new Space Force. In doing so, he must rise to the occasion to meet the demands of the President.
