Record of Grancrest War – also known as Grancrest Senki – quickly found its way into the hearts of many anime fans. But one question is on everyone’s mind: Will there be Season 2?
The series takes us to a continent ruled by chaos and on the brink of collapse. There, the rulers rely on so-called “Crests”, holy seals that can banish chaos and protect their people. But instead of standing together against the looming disaster, many of these rulers become corrupted by the chaos themselves and get caught up in power struggles.
Amidst this turmoil, we meet Siluca Meletes, an independent mage who doesn’t think much of the ruling class, and Theo Cornaro, a young warrior who wants to free his homeland. The two join forces and swear to end the war. As master and servant, they set out to free the continent from chaos. So far, the story spans one season with a total of 24 episodes – and many are wondering: What’s the deal with a sequel?
Is there hope for Season 2?
It’s been quite a few years since the first season aired. Still, fans are eagerly waiting for news about a possible follow-up. But unfortunately, there’s currently no official release date or confirmation that a second season is even in the works.
Despite the show’s success, the studio doesn’t seem to have shown any interest in continuing the story. And as is the case with many anime series – if nothing is announced for years, the chances of new episodes coming out are pretty slim. A similar fate befell shows like Maid-sama, which also never got a second season.
Some fans even suspect that Grancrest Senki was mainly created to promote the video game of the same name. That game was released shortly after the anime finale in summer 2018 for the PlayStation 4. If the anime was really just a marketing project, then the chances of getting a Season 2 sadly don’t look too good.
