Kabaneri of the Iron Fortress tells the story of a young engineer in a post-apocalyptic Japan. Will the series continue with Season 2?
The anime series Kabaneri of the Iron Fortress takes us to a post-apocalyptic Japan where humanity is threatened by deadly zombie-like monsters. These creatures, known as “Kabane”, can only be killed if their hearts are pierced by iron. Anyone bitten by them is also transformed, leading to their rapid spread. To protect themselves, the people of Hinomoto have built fortified cities and travel exclusively between these safe zones using armored steam locomotives.
Will there be Kabaneri of the Iron Fortress Season 2?
The first season, released in April 2016 by the renowned Wit Studio, consists of 12 episodes. With its unique steampunk aesthetic and thematic similarities to Attack on Titan – created by the same producers – it quickly gained a large fan base.
Despite its success, there has been no official announcement for a Season 2. So far, no plans for a sequel have been confirmed, leaving the future of the series uncertain. Fans will need to remain patient and hope for updates.
A Movie continues the Story
Although no second season has been released, the story of Kabaneri of the Iron Fortress has been continued with a movie. The Battle of Unato premiered in Japan in May 2019, picking up where the series left off. Ikoma and the Iron Fortress join an alliance to reclaim the Unato region from the Kabane. The film is available on Netflix with a German dub, divided into three episodes.
