JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure – or simply “JoJo” – is much more than just an ordinary anime. The series consists of several independent parts that are all connected to each other. But what is the right order to watch the saga?
At the center are the adventures of the Joestar family, whose story spans across different generations. It all begins with Jonathan Joestar, the first protagonist. After a tragic carriage accident in which his mother dies, he grows up alone with his father. But then Dio Brando enters their lives – the son of the man who supposedly helped during the accident. After the death of his own father, Dio is taken in by the Joestar family, where he makes Jonathan’s life difficult and sets the stage for the events to come.
How you should watch JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure
The series is based on the cult manga by Hirohiko Araki, which has been published since 1987. Since 2012, there has also been an anime adaptation, which has been continued piece by piece. Especially newcomers quickly lose track with all the different parts. To make sure that doesn’t happen to you, here is the chronological order:
- Part 1: “Phantom Blood” (2012)
- Part 2: “Battle Tendency” (2012)
- Part 3: “Stardust Crusaders” (2014)
- Part 4: “Diamond is Unbreakable” (2016)
- Spin-off: “Thus Spoke Kishibe Rohan” (2017)
- Part 5: “Golden Wind” (2018)
- Part 6: “Stone Ocean” (2021)
- Part 7: “Steel Ball Run” (no release yet)
Even though each part tells its own story with new characters, all parts are still connected and follow an overarching storyline. If you really want to fully understand the world of JoJo, you should therefore stick to this order – it corresponds both to the release of the anime seasons and to the manga source material.
