Overlord tells the story of a talented gamer whose favorite game suddenly becomes reality. The order of the anime series is actually quite simple to understand.
Fans of overpowered anime characters will love Overlord. Based on the light novel of the same name by Kugane Maruyama, the series premiered in Japan in 2015. Since then, several seasons have been released that continue the story, along with numerous anime movies, bonus episodes, and specials.
How to Watch Overlord in the Right Order
The adaptation of the popular novel includes not only the main series but also additional material. However, these bonus contents do not enhance the storyline and should be viewed separately from the main series. To enjoy the show optimally, follow this order:
- Season 1: Overlord (2015)
- Season 2: Overlord II (2018)
- Season 3: Overlord III (2018)
- Season 4: Overlord IV (2022)
Fans often wonder about the role of the two films Overlord: The Undead King (2017) and Overlord: The Dark Hero (2017) in the timeline of the anime saga. However, these films can be ignored as they merely summarize the known storyline from the first season and do not provide any new content.
What Overlord is about
The plot of Overlord revolves around a young man named Momonga. He refuses to log out of the online game Yggdrasil, which is set to be shut down. Unwillingly, he transforms into a skeletal mage and is thrust into a new world that he now intends to conquer. Alongside him are NPCs with a variety of powers.
