Hunter x Hunter is an incredibly popular manga that has been adapted into an anime twice. Here’s how you can watch the series in the correct order.
The story of Hunter x Hunter follows young Gon, who dreams of becoming a Hunter, just like his father Ging. However, to achieve this goal, he must first pass the dangerous Hunter Exam. Along his journey, Gon makes many new friends but also faces powerful enemies. Hunter x Hunter is one of the most successful anime series out there, but what’s the best order to watch it in?
Hunter x Hunter: Original Series or Remake?
There are two anime adaptations of Hunter x Hunter. Both are based on the manga by Yoshihiro Togashi, meaning the core story is the same. However, the two series differ in some major ways, mostly due to the fact that one aired in 1999 and the other in 2011.
The 2011 version features more modern animation and art styles, making it visually more appealing. It’s also much longer, with 148 episodes compared to the original’s 62 episodes (plus a few bonus episodes). Because of this, we recommend watching the 2011 remake.
Hunter x Hunter (2011): The Chronological Viewing Order
The 2011 version of Hunter x Hunter was produced by Studio Madhouse and aired from 2011 to 2014 in Japan. Although a continuation hasn’t been announced, two movies were released in 2013 that expand on the series. Here’s the correct order to watch them:
- Hunter x Hunter (TV series, 2011)
- Hunter x Hunter: Phantom Rouge (movie, 2013)
- Hunter x Hunter: The Last Mission (movie, 2013)
Both movies tell independent stories, so it’s best to watch them after finishing the series.
