The anime Frieren generated a lot of attention in 2024 and excited many fans. Now the community is eagerly waiting for a sequel – but when will season 2 finally arrive?
The story revolves around the elf mage Frieren, who, together with Himmel and his group of heroes, defeats the Demon King and brings peace to the land. While humans grow older and continue their lives normally, Frieren wanders on as a long-lived elf. It’s only 50 years later that she sees her former companions again – now old and marked by life.
Shortly after, she witnesses Himmel’s death. This loss hits her hard and makes her regret not spending more time with him. Driven by this guilt, Frieren begins a new journey. She wants to understand humans better and build new relationships – this time without regret. Season 1 aired from 2023 to 2024 and ended with a big cliffhanger. So it’s no surprise that many fans are impatiently waiting for the sequel.
Release: Frieren Season 2 will be released in January 2026
Since spring 2025 it has been officially confirmed that a second season is coming. The current plan is for season 2 to air in Japan in January 2026. A specific day has not yet been announced, but as soon as there are updates, you’ll hear about it.
It is also confirmed that Studio Madhouse – which handled the first season – is returning. The story will continue to be based on the manga of the same name by Kanehito Yamada and Tsukasa Abe. An official trailer for the continuation has already been released.
When is Season 2 coming to the US?
Good news for fans in the United States. The second season of Frieren is also expected to stream on Crunchyroll again. Since a simulcast is planned, season 2 will likely be available at the same time or with only minimal delay compared to the Japanese TV broadcast. The first season is already fully available on Crunchyroll – including English dub.
