In Designated Survivor Secretary Tom Kirkman fights to uncover the truth behind an attack as the sole survivor. The series, available on the streaming service Netflix, was well-received by both subscribers and critics alike. However, it has been some time since the third season premiered. Can we still hope for a fourth season of Designated Survivor?
Designated Survivor: What’s the Status of Season 4?
In June 2019, the third season of “Designated Survivor” premiered on Netflix. The streaming giant had picked up the series from ABC Entertainment and renewed it after a large fanbase demanded its continuation. However, the provider does not wish to extend the story further.
In a statement, Netflix thanked those involved, particularly Kiefer Sutherland, for their work and dedication to the series. Netflix also made it clear that there will not be a fourth season, expressing gratitude for the “satisfying final season” that had been produced.

How Could Designated Survivor Continue?
At the end of the third season, Kirkman achieves his major goal: he wins the election and becomes a “real” president. Calling this a cliffhanger would be an exaggeration. The election victory provides a well-rounded conclusion to the story. However, in theory, Designated Survivor could still be continued.
Another season could, for example, depict how Kirkman deals with his new situation as the legitimately elected president. The story’s potential is far from exhausted. However, a new provider would need to be found to rescue the series, as Netflix has already closed the project.
