In just a few years, Black Clover has fought its way to the top of the fantasy genre. However, the anime has been on hiatus for some time now. When will Season 5 continue?
In 2017, Black Clover caused quite a stir. Based on the manga of the same name, it tells the story of two rival mages, Asta and Yuno. For years, there was a new episode almost every week. But the series has been on hold for a while now, leaving millions of fans wondering when they can expect Season 5.
Black Clover Season 5: When will Episode 171 be released?
The reason for Black Clover’s extended pause is that the anime has nearly caught up with the manga. There still isn’t enough material to produce a completely new season. Thus, it remains unclear whether and when the highly anticipated 171st episode, and with it Season 5, will be released.
Before that can happen, several new manga volumes need to be published. Since the first release in 2015, three to five volumes have come out each year. If the creator, Yūki Tabata, continues at this pace, the continuation – depending on how long Season 5 will be—might not arrive until mid-2024 to late 2025.

Netflix Movie Continues the Anime
When news broke that the finale of Black Clover Season 4 would feature a surprise, fans hoped for a release date for Season 5. Instead, the first movie of the anime and manga saga, Black Clover: Sword of the Wizard King, was announced.
You can watch this film exclusively on Netflix since June 2023. The story revolves around Asta and his friends fighting against the leaders of the past in a large-scale assault. The screenplay was written by manga creator Yūki Tabata and was specifically crafted for the film. So, it’s not a direct adaptation of the manga.
To bridge the wait for Season 5, the movie is a great option. If that’s not enough for you and you’re feeling too impatient, you might consider reading the manga. The series ends around Chapter 270, so you should get Volume 27 to find out how the fantasy adventures continue.
