The series revolves around 18-year-old Sam Gardner, who is on the autism spectrum. His parents, Elsa and Doug, do everything they can to help him lead an independent life, including arranging regular sessions with his therapist.
But Sam doesn’t just want support – he wants to live like any other teenager, much like his sister Casey. However, he frequently encounters challenges that remind him of his differences. Still, he never gives up, making Atypical a fan-favorite on Netflix. But is the story truly over, or is there a chance for another season?
Will Atypical continue?
After nearly two years of waiting, fans were finally able to watch Season 4 of Atypical on Netflix in July 2021. Since then, no new episodes have been released – and unfortunately, that won’t change.
The reason is clear: Even before production began, it was confirmed that Season 4 would be the series’ last. There won’t be a Season 5. While this may be disappointing for many fans, there’s at least one silver lining: Unlike abruptly canceled shows like 1899 or Wellmania, Atypical was given a proper and satisfying conclusion.
Why was Atypical canceled after Season 4?
Despite its success, Atypical ended after four seasons. Many Netflix originals don’t even make it that far, highlighting the show’s impact. However, it seems that its popularity wasn’t strong enough to justify another season.
In February 2021, Netflix officially announced that the fourth season would also be the last – without providing specific reasons for the cancellation. What’s certain, though, is that the story reached a natural and well-rounded conclusion, leaving no unanswered questions behind.
