Studio MAPPA is a relatively young animation studio from Japan. It was founded in 2011 by film producer and former founder of Studio Madhouse, Masao Maruyama, and has since produced many successful series and films. Here are some of the best anime from Studio MAPPA:
Dorohedoro
The Netflix adaptation of the manga Dorohedoro is one of the most bizarre creations from Studio MAPPA. The story follows Kaiman, a man with a lizard’s head, which was transformed by a sorcerer. With no memory of his past, he embarks on a journey to discover his true identity.
Jujutsu Kaisen
Yuji Itadori is a typical high school student until his life changes drastically when his friend is attacked by a curse. To save him, Yuji consumes the finger of the powerful curse Sukuna, who then gains partial control over his body. To survive, Yuji joins the Jujutsu Academy, where he learns to fight curses.
Kakegurui – Compulsive Gambler
At Hyakkaou Academy, an elite school for the children of the wealthiest families, gambling is a core part of the curriculum. Success in gambling determines a student’s rank in the school hierarchy, while failures end up at the bottom. The new student, Yumeko Jabami, is determined to rise to the top.
Inuyashiki Last Hero
Ichiro Inuyashiki leads a dull and insignificant life until he learns that he has a terminal illness. After an encounter with a UFO, his body is transformed into a powerful machine. High schooler Hiro Shishigami undergoes the same transformation, but while he uses his powers for destruction, Inuyashiki uses his to help others.
Terror in Tokyo
In Terror in Tokyo, a mysterious group called Sphinx terrorizes Tokyo with bomb threats and riddles posted online. Two teenagers, Nine and Twelve, are behind the attacks. Their classmate Lisa accidentally stumbles upon their plans and gets entangled in their schemes.
Attack on Titan: Final Season
MAPPA also worked on the final season of the iconic anime Attack on Titan. The series is set in a world where humanity hides behind massive walls to protect themselves from giant humanoid monsters known as Titans. The story focuses on Eren Yeager, who joins the Survey Corps to fight against the Titans.
Chainsaw Man
Denji lives in extreme poverty, hunting devils with his chainsaw devil companion, Pochita, to pay off his massive debts. One day, he is betrayed and killed, but as he lies dying, he makes a contract with Pochita and is resurrected as “Chainsaw Man,” a human-devil hybrid.
